It is the responsibility of the Programme Director to ensure there is a balance of assessment across the programme curriculum. Providing a balanced assessment portfolio will avoid any overloading of particular types of assessment (for example, exams or coursework) at particular times within the academic year and should provide students with steady engagement with the assessment across their programme. An overview of the assessment of a given programme can be compiled using the existing module descriptors, either via the year tutors (if this management structure is in place) or directly with the Module Leaders at, for example, the Programme Committee. This overview can be used to identify where any ‘hotspots’ may arise.
