Quality Assurance Agency (QAA)
The QAA produces the UK Quality code for Higher Education (HE), the key external reference point for expectations in relation to quality and standards in HE. Part A of the code details the setting and maintaining of academic standards and houses the Subject Benchmark Statements that specify expectations regarding degree standards in a variety of subject areas. The benchmarks explain what gives a particular subject area its coherence and distinctiveness, as well as outlines expectations in relation to the discipline knowledge, abilities and skills a graduate needs to demonstrate. Part B covers ensuring and enhancing academic quality and Part C holds the information about higher education provision.
As Programme Director is it your responsibility to ensure that the programme you manage is in line with the relevant Subject Benchmark Statements and the UK Quality Code. One of the main ways you will demonstrate this is through Curriculum and Programme Review processes.
